The estate Serafini and its farmhouses were mentioned for the first time with the name “Podere Poggio Becchi di Sopra” in the General Land Registry of the Mainland, known as the Leopoldino Registry, and promulgated in 1765 by Pietro Leopoldo Grand Duke of Tuscany.
It is said that at the beginning of the sixteenth century, thanks to the foresight of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany, the best architects, hydraulic engineers and scientists were called for the land reclamation project of the Valdichiana. On that occasion, Leonardo da Vinci climbed the tower of Torrita di Siena to take the reference points and draw that “Bird’s Eye Map” which depicts the valley still flooded, in a group of drawings now preserved at Windsor Castle in England.

The property is located in Petriolo, Tuscany, on the hills of Torrita di Siena, equally distant from the Municipality of Torrita and that of Sinalunga. This is a territory of Tuscany which lies among Chianti Classico (40 km), Montalcino (38 km), Montepulciano (10km), Pienza (17 km) and the Val d’Orcia (28 km), still little known, with a unique terroir of absolute originality.

Initially belonging to the Rossi family of Medelana Serafini Ferri, the estate was sold by Gian Annibale Rossi of Medelana Serafini Ferri to his cousin Domenico Serafini in 1974. The property is a wildlife reserve, rich in fallow deer, roe deer, wild boars, hares, pheasants and woodcocks. Sometimes wolves also arrive close to the farmhouses.

On the land, there are some historic buildings, already registered and present in the Leopoldino Land Registry of 1765, which are the subject of a conservative and renovation project. These include a large manor house of Leopoldine architecture, with round arches, cross vaults, balconies and loggias, a cellar, a barrel cellar, a characteristic well, an eighteenth-century oven with its annexes, an old tobacco storage building, and a scenic tasting room overlooking the vineyards.
