Elegance, balance, longevity, perseverance: these are the four characteristics of the symbolism of the crane, which has populated these countryside areas since the fourteenth century as Boccaccio reminds us in the Decameron novel Chichibio and the Crane.
With the sinuous curve that runs from its neck to the wings, the crane looks like the letter S of the Serafini family and symbolizes the philosophy of the company in the logo.
The crane’s innate grace in the movements as well as in the courtship, the ability to stay upright and balanced on one leg, to live a long time, and the tenacity in covering very long migration distances, recall the key features of the wines produced here, which are characterized by elegance, balance, the long length of the period of aging in wood and refinement in the bottle, and a marked ability to improve its characteristics in time.

The wine takes its name from the famous character Ghino Di Tacco, who was born in this region. Mentioned by Dante (Purgatorio VI, vv.13-14) and Boccaccio (Decameron, X, 2, Ghino di Tacco and the Abbot of Cligny), he belonged to the noble branch of the Guard…

The wine takes its name from the famous character Ghino Di Tacco, who was born in this region. Mentioned by Dante (Purgatorio VI, vv.13-14) and Boccaccio (Decameron, X, 2, Ghino di Tacco and the Abbot of Cligny), he belonged to the noble branch of the Guardavalle counts of the Sienese feudal family Cacciaconti, lords of Torrita and Fratta in Val di Chiana. After the death of his father who was executed as one of the Ghibelline leaders in the war against the Guelph government of Siena, Ghino Di Tacco became an outlaw and a rebel. His figure as a gentleman brigand and his deeds soon became popular and legendary thanks to his proud, charismatic, uncompromising, noble and elegant character: like Sangiovese.

THE WINERY

The farm extends on 12 hectares of vineyards, in the municipality of Torrita di Siena, the vines are at an average height of about 350 m above sea level, and the terroir is absolutely unique with completely original mixtures of marne, marl and clay. There are 5 different vineyards, with different exposures and ages, some of great value for exposure and age of the vines (a vineyard from 1972 and a vineyard from 2001).

ESTATE AND TERRITORY

The estate Serafini and its farmhouses were mentioned for the first time with the name “Podere Poggio Becchi di Sopra” in the General Land Registry of the Mainland, known as the Leopoldino Registry, and promulgated in 1765 by Pietro Leopoldo Grand Duke of Tuscany.
